Nursing Home Compare datasets

These are the official datasets used on the Nursing Home Compare Website provided by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. These data allow you to compare the quality of care at every Medicare and Medicaid-certified nursing home in the country, including over 15,000 nationwide.

Nursing Home Compare data was last updated on Feb 27, 2019.

  • CMS releases Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) Quality Reporting Program (QRP) data
    • Nursing Home Compare now includes SNF QRP quality data that allows you to compare SNF providers by their performance on important indicators of quality. The following 5 SNF QRP measures are now being displayed on Nursing Home Compare:

      Assessment-based measures:

      • Percent of Residents or Patients with Pressure Ulcers that are New or Worsened (Short-stay)
      • Application of Percent of Long-Term Care Hospital (LTCH) Patients with an Admission and Discharge Functional Assessment and a Care Plan that Addresses Function
      • Application of Percent of Residents Experiencing One or More Falls with Major Injury

      Claims-based measures:

      • Medicare Spending Per Beneficiary
      • Discharge to Community

  • CMS decided not to publish a 6th quality measure at this time: Potentially Preventable 30-day Post-Discharge Readmissions. Additional time would allow for more testing to determine if there are modifications that may be needed both to the measure and to the method for displaying the measure. This additional testing will ensure that the future publicly reported measure is thoroughly evaluated so that Compare users can depend upon an accurate picture of provider quality. While we conduct this additional testing, CMS won't post reportable data for this measure, including each SNF's performance, as well as the national rate.
  • Visit Nursing Home Compare to view the new SNF QRP quality data.

  • New quality of resident care measure for unplanned hospitalizations among long-stay residents
  • Beginning with the April 2019 Nursing Home Compare refresh, the downloadable database will be provided in .csv format only. We will no longer post the Access format.
  • Because we're implementing a new Nursing Home health inspection process, we've changed how the star ratings are calculated.
